Day 29
In my last post, I spoke about Chronos vs Kairos in relation to prayer. There are times when you pray and don't feel like God has heard you nor has he answered. You may have been praying for something for years and still nothing. So it begs the question that I have heard in many Christian circles. Should I pray once and leave it or should I continue to pray until I see the manifestation? I don't believe that either way is incorrect as the Bible gives examples of both.
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
When we pray we pray in faith. There are plenty of times where we will pray and not see the manifestation, but faith has to believe the manifestation is already done! Likewise, someone like Daniel prayed 3 times a day, did not eat the king’s food and still experienced a delay. Do we know if he prayed the same thing over and over, we can't be sure but in his humanity, if he did, God heard him. I think the most critical and heartfelt answer is God hears us rather it's one time or one thousand times.
1 Peter 3:12 - "For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…”
So if you need a reference or a model from the thousands of examples in the Bible, I’ll list 2 here:
Old Testament
In studying the book of Daniel God gave me the following:
What do I pray - His Word
How do I pray it - Intimately
When should I pray - 3 times a day
What impacts my prayer - Fasting
New Testament
Matthew 6 The Model Prayer
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the [b]hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you [c]openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. [d]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
