The Lame Beggar Healed
3 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.1 2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. 3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. 4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5 And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10 and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
VS 1-2 Focus today
1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
Now Peter and John - Peter and John had a purpose, assignment, determination, and cause
Going - they were in motion
Up - elevation
Prayer 9th hour - the timing
2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple.
Was being carried - Someone else carried him into the place – sometimes you are in a position or place because someone else carried you there. Then you got used to being carried and don’t even desire to get there for yourself.
Whom they laid daily -They laid him daily – they helped him beg, they helped him stay in this state, they helped him have a pity party etc. Who is helping you???
The Beautiful Gate -The favorite entrance to the temple court -The Jewish historian Josephus described this gate on the temple mount; made of fine Corinthian brass, seventy-five feet high with huge double doors, so beautiful that it “greatly excelled those that were only covered over with silver and gold… So many arguments about the location and if the man would have been allowed in such a beautiful place – I tell you based on what I have read in the Gospels and know about my Jesus that that’s exactly where he would have been! By a gate called beautiful even though he had an issue.
Outside the temple – why because the Glory of God resided in the temple and the last time I checked sickness and disease cannot rest abide stay or otherwise Be once Jesus shows up on the scene.
