Discipline is Required to be a Trailblazing Disciple

Day 11

Since we are in a season of Fasting, let's talk about one word that is necessary to fast successfully: Discipline. Fasting requires discipline on any given day. But, to do an extended fast requires the fruits of the spirit - joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. A 21 day fast and longer is designed to get you to a place of Purification. I want to challenge your complacency and expose you to very spiritual truths - extended fasting is your chosen weapon! Yes, extended fasting will change you, your life and your Destiny! (I’ll write about this topic specifically another day)

Many Christians are living a defeated life or a life full of small inconsistent victories. Why? Because they have not mastered this area. Yes, we all get “obedience is better than sacrifice”, as we quote it well and we will do what God says to do most of the time. But, until we get this… Discipline - not the discipline of God's correction - but joyful, will-full discipline comes from retraining the brain. This is different from self-control – the word self alone lets you know you will have some problems - but joyful, will-full discipline comes from retraining the brain. It means I'm happy and excited to live a disciplined lifestyle and declare “no it's not a burden, It's what I want to do”!

Hebrews 12:11 “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

The word origin for Discipline is Latin - it means instruction and knowledge. In the original English language translated from disciple. Disciple – a personal follower of Jesus, a follower of our teacher. As a Christian and disciple of Jesus Christ you retrain the brain through understanding:

  • Mindsets must change.

  • Thoughts must change.

  • Negative speaking must change.

  • Monuments must be torn down from your life.

  • Contaminants of religion and tradition must be removed from your life.

  • Remove “it's just always been this way” from the mind, remove it, God.

  • Extract stubbornness and complacency from the mind and my heart.

  • Replace language immediately - if you speak something in the atmosphere which is not speaking life, remove it and revoke it immediately. Then replace it with a life-giving statement.

  • You must allow the removal of people, places, and thing from your life -people, places, and things that cause hindrances

  • Be willing to be free and commit to staying free

  • Limit access to you, your hearing and private time with God.

Discipline is required to be a trailblazing disciple!
